A drink-driver has been fined £900 and banned for two years.
Paul David Sheridan admitted the offences after failing a breathalyser test with a reading of 55. The legal limit is 35.
Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that Sheridan’s Citroen Berlingo was seen parked on Summerhill Road in Onchan near Mama’s Kitchen on June 5 at 10.30pm.
The 60-year-old was seen exiting the vehicle by a witness who described him as unsteady on his feet.
Sheridan went into the takeaway to order food and was also said to be slurring his words. He was then seen getting back into his car and performing a three-point turn to park it on the opposite side of the road.
Sheridan, of Falcon Cliff Terrace, Douglas, was then seen getting out and standing in the middle of the road before going back into the takeaway.
A witness called the police and when officers arrived they found Sheridan sitting in his car.
He failed a roadside breathalyser test and was taken to police headquarters where he failed a further test with the 55 reading.
Sheridan admitted moving the car saying he was moving it away from a friend’s address and had believed he would be fit to drive.
He said he intended to leave the car in the parking space overnight and was going to cycle home as he had a bike in the rear of the vehicle.
Defence advocate Paul Glover asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and lack of previous similar convictions.
’It was a relatively short distance driven, from the Strathallan Crescent area,’ said the advocate.
’There doesn’t appear to have been any criticism of his driving.’
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered Sheridan to pay £125 prosecution costs which he will pay, along with the fine, at a rate of £100 per month.
