A woman from Ballasalla has been given a conditional discharge after breaching a licensing ban.

Tina Cole, of Foxdale Road, was banned from entering licensed premises, and buying or being sold alcohol for 14 months in June.

However, prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that staff at the Harbour Lights restaurant in the Sefton Hotel, Douglas, reported that Cole had bought two large glasses of wine on July 24 at 1pm.

The designated official recognised the 57-year-old from the banning book after she had been served and by the time police arrived Cole had left but CCTV footage confirmed that she had been drinking.

Defence advocate Kate Alexander said that her client had been made the subject of a probation order shortly before this latest breach.

Ms Alexander said that Cole had been in poor health and had had a difficult few years.

The advocate asked for the probation order to continue as Cole had been engaging with Motiv8, the charity that helps people with addiction problems.

Magistrates ruled that they were happy for the current probation order and licensing ban to continue as they felt nothing was to be gained by extending either.

The conditional discharge will run for 12 months. Cole was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.
