A woman who smashed glasses in a pub and hit her partner with a pool cue has been banned from the island for five years.

Jayne Mitchell, whose address was given in court as Albert Street, Ramsey, admitted hitting her partner with a pool cue and smashing glasses during a row at the Stanley Hotel, in Ramsey.

Mitchell, aged 46, was sentenced to 14 days' jail for disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and destroying property as well as being made the subject of the five year exclusion order.

Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court how, on September 8 at 8pm, police were called to the Ramsey pub after a report of Mitchell refusing to leave and hitting a man with a pool cue.

Officers arrived and arrested her and staff said Mitchell had smashed a pool cue against the table, smashing glasses, then her partner with the cue.

She had refused to leave the pub and been restrained by her partner.

Another witness said they saw Mitchell and the man arguing at the table, then ’go at each other fighting’.

In a police interview Mitchell said she couldn’t recall events but accepted she must have committed the offences.

Mr Kane applied for the exclusion order saying that Mitchell was not normally resident in the island.

He said she had come over to do some work but did not have a work permit and had no ties to the island.

Defence advocate Deborah Myerscough said her client would not object to the ban as she needed the support of her family who were in the UK.

’We would ask the court to take into account that she was co-operative when arrested.

’She spent two nights in the cells and has spent a week on remand at the prison,’ said the advocate.

Ms Myerscough said that Mitchell had a number of family issues and had been living with her partner here.

She continued: ’She relies on him to help her financially.

’They had been out together and a photo which has got sentimental value to Ms Mitchell was somehow torn and this is what caused this incident.

’She has actually been in custody quite a long time.’

Magistrates sentenced Mitchell to 14 days custody for each offence to run concurrently and banned her from entering licensed premises, and purchasing or being sold alcohol for 28 days.
