A woman who was hit by a car’s wing mirror needed surgery for multiple breaks to her arm.
The motorist, Victoria Makin, aged 20, of Derwent Drive, Onchan, admittedcausing serious bodily harm by driving without due care.
She will be sentenced on September 6 after a probation report has been completed but magistrates ruled out custody.
Prosecutor Richard Butters told the court how, on February 25, police were called to Noble’s Hospital where a woman had suffered an injury to her arm.
She said she was walking on Scollag Road in Braddan near to Abbeylands crossroads, where there is no pavement, when she heard a car approaching. As the car rounded the corner, the driver applied the brakes heavily but failed to stop in time and hit the woman.
The woman had tried to jump out of the way but the car’s wing mirror hit her left arm causing multiple breaks which had required surgery.
A victim impact statement said that the woman had only 3% of movement in her left hand and it was unclear if she would ever fully recover.
Mr Butters added: ’Ms Makin has been devastated about this and has shown great remorse.’
Advocate Paul Rodgers said his client had stopped and offered to take the injured woman to the hospital.
Bail was granted until sentencing.
