A woman has been committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery after admitting receiving £1,092-worth of cannabis in the post.

Melissa Leanne Susan Ardis, aged 27, of Clagh Vane, Ballasalla, will be sentenced on June 4, after a probation report has been prepared, for production of the drug to the island and being concerned in the supply of it.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police were called to the Post Office sorting office on October 15 last year after a suspicious package was intercepted.

It was addressed to ’E Quayle, Clagh Vane, Ballasalla’ and when opened, police found 54.6 grams of cannabis, valued at £1,092.

Ardis was arrested and when interviewed denied any knowledge of the parcel.

However, evidence of use and supply was found on her mobile phone.

Police also found that she had utilised the tracking number on the package.

She was interviewed again and this time admitted the offences saying she used cannabis medicinally and shared it with friends.

Ardis claimed in a basis of plea that she had not made any financial gain but this has not been accepted by the prosecution.

Defence advocate David Clegg said that it had been a case of supplying to friends who already used the drug and that his client had not been introducing people to it.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered that details of how many people were being supplied and of any financial gain be established before sentencing.

Bail continues in the sum of £500 with conditions to live at her home address and contact probation.
