A woman has admitted stealing an Armani watch worth £127 which was sent in the post to her neighbour.
Healthcare assistant, Heather Clugston, of Magherdonnagh, in Port Erin, was caught out when the neighbour spotted what looked like a similar watch being worn and called the police.
Clugston, aged 55, was fined £300 and ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs by magistrates.
Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court that, on June 5, Clugston’s neighbour had ordered an Armani watch in the post.
She never received it and was given a refund by the company she ordered it from.
However, on July 23, the neighbour saw the watch being worn and contacted police.
She told police that she had found the package containing the watch under her bed but could not recall how it got there.

However, she admitted the parcel had her neighbour’s address on it.
Clugston went on to tell police that she drank a lot and could not recall how the package came into her possession.
A probation report described the theft as ’opportunistic’ and said that Clugston did not get on with her neighbour.
She said that she had a long-standing issue with alcohol and was attending Motiv8.
The report went on to say that Clugston had not drunk since September.
Defence advocate David Clegg said: ’Ms Clugston deeply regrets her actions.
’It certainly would have been cheaper to have bought the watch from scratch.
’She understands there may be implications in terms of her employment as well.’
Clugston was ordered to pay the fine and costs at a rate of £50 per month with 21 days in default of payment.
