A 28-year-old Pulrose woman has been sentenced to community service after biting a man’s ear in a pub.
Kerry Anderson, of Cedar Grove, admitted disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and must do 80 hours unpaid work.
Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the court how, on March 25, Anderson was in a group of five people on a Tesco work night out in the Bridge Inn, North Quay, Douglas.
The victim was also in the group and got into a verbal altercation with Anderson.
Anderson was said to have made a comment to him and asked him if he had anything to say in return.
The man was then said to have said: ’If you want a comment you will have to scrape it off your mum’s teeth.’
The comment was said to be a reference to a Jimmy Carr joke.
This was said to have sparked Anderson’s anger as her mother had died eight years ago.
deep cut
She was said to have sworn at the man and grabbed him by the neck before biting his left ear causing a deep cut to it.
Anderson was also said to have thrown a drink over her fiance during the incident.
When interviewed by police she gave ’no comment’ responses.
Defence advocate Louise Cooil said: ’The comment provoked a significant overreaction but perhaps a reaction that was understandable.
’She instantly apologised and she believed that was the end of the matter.
’They remained as a group and went to work the next week and she apologised again to the complainant.
’Obviously a few days later the complainant has made a complaint to the police.
’She fully accepts it was an overreaction.’
Ms Cooil went on to say that her client had rated herself as eight out of 10 on a scale of how drunk she was.
’It is something she would have walked away from if she had not been drinking.’
The advocate added that Anderson would lose her employment if she was given a custodial sentence.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered Anderson to pay £50 prosecution costs.
