A trip down memory lane awaits guests at The Palace Hotel in Douglas next month.

Three classic television games shows are to be recreated as part of the event, in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society Isle of Man.

’Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’, ’Catchphrase’ and ’Name That Tune!’ will be staged on Friday, March 29.

The fundraiser has been organised by a group of events management and marketing students at University College Isle of Man.

As part of their degree course, they have to arrange an event in its entirety from planning to production and staging.

One of the group, Mark Halliday, said: ’We believe this will be the first time such an event has taken place on the Isle of Man and are very excited about it.

’However, as so often is the case with these things, they can take on a life of their own and there’s a lot to organise so we very much appreciate the support of Auxesia for helping make this possible.

’Our aim is to present a unique event where this vital charity will not only gain financially but also benefit from increased awareness about the services it provides.

’The event is intended as a trip down memory lane, with two professional entertainers and game show equipment and themed quiz rounds. In selecting three main gameshows on the night, Catchphrase, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Name that Tune, we believe there will be something for everyone and it should be a blast from the past and a really fun night.’

There will also be a raffle and hot buffet with all proceeds staying on the island to support the ongoing work of the Alzheimer’s Society.

There are currently around 1,300 people with a diagnosis of dementia on the Isle of Man and it is the goal of the society to help each and every person affected by the condition.

It is funded entirely through voluntary income and all of the services are provided free at the point of delivery.

Belinda Watson, finance director of sponsor Auxesia, added: ’The Alzheimer’s Society is such an important local charity and provides a valuable lifeline for many people so this event will hopefully generate a significant level of funding.

’As a marketing project, the students have worked extremely hard to put this together and it will have a real retro feeling with a true feeling of being involved in big name shows, along with plenty of impressive raffle prizes.’
