Christmas is traditionally thought of as the time that brings families together.
For the Jablokov family, however, it means a time when they can join each other on stage and perform their beloved Viennese music together for a special Christmas concert, held at the Villa Marina, on Thursday, December 21.
Classical violinists Vlad and Anton Jablokov annually hold a series of concerts around Christmas time, which feature their whole musical family, mother Katerina, father Alexander, brother Andrew, who are also violinists and pianist Olga, and perform a night of romantic and atmospheric Viennese melodies, tailored around an enjoyable family Christmas show.
Music will include many Viennese waltzs, such as the Blue Danube alongside many other contemporary songs played in a melodious, classical style.
Vlad said that all of his family are involved with playing music and, having all left home, the concerts are an ideal way of getting them all together again each year.
’I wanted to have an excuse to try to reunite us all,’ said Vlad. ’When we grew up, we all went in different directions, all over the world, and I thought that if we could play a concert together, we could meet up.
’It was only supposed to be for one year. But after the first time we played a concert of Viennese music together, it proved so popular that I realised it was something that could we could do regularly.
’And because we were all together playing on stage, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had a great time, and that is what made it a success, I think.
Joining the Jablokov family will be soloist Claudia Boyle and tenor Sean Costello.
’Claudia sings all over the world with some of the world’s top composers and is very much in demand. She is actually flying in from New York on the morning of our first concert on the 15th.
’And we also have a very good contrast with Sean Costello, an tenor from Ireland.
’He is very charismatic, and he has so much fun with everything he sings. He gives it so much energy.’
Both Vlad and Anton previously appeared on the island during May this year, when they performed alongside the popular classical singer Katherine Jenkins.
Tickets start at £20 for an adult ticket, with £30 for an upstairs seat, and family tickets available for £50, and can be obtained from the Villa Gaiety Box Office or the Welcome Centre.
