Letters of accusation between commissioners must stop or the local authority in Port St Mary should be disbanded and placed under special measures.

That is the view of commissioner Ian Skelly, who expressed his displeasure at the aggressive letter writing at a recent meeting.

Mr Skelly said: ’After the board agreed to move on some time ago letters continue to come in making accusations therefore I am seriously considering writing to the Chief Minister to ask him to disband Port St Mary board and put us into special measures.’

Commissioner Bernadette Williams agreed and pointed out the main role of the board - and what they were elected for - should be the business of Port St Mary.

She added a line needed to be drawn under past events.

The authority has had a turbulent few months.

The former clerk Alastair Hamilton - on sick leave from January - left in April after an agreement was reached; a police investigation was held into how information about two EGMs concerning the clerk were leaked to the press. Also, ratepayers have concerns about the 5.2% rate rise and purchase of Manxonia House.

An announcement about the new clerk will be made shortly.
