Children impacted by the Chernobyl nuclear explosion have been enjoying a glorious summer in the island.

This past week, the children visited Albany Tennis club where they met the Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney and some played tennis with Lady Diana.

They were also joined by former governor Sir Laurence and his wife Lady Anna New who are patrons of the Friends of Chernobyl Children charity.

While there, the children were coached by Ian Watson and his volunteers and had lunch that the ladies of the tennis club had made.

The visit is part of a month long trip to the island, which has seen the children explore many parts of the island and take part in some interesting activities.

So far, the charity has arranged trips to Castle Rushen, the MET Office, a horse tram ride, Peel beach and Kirk Michael fire station.

The charity was founded in the island in 1999 and on average have been able to bring about 20 children a year from areas surrounding the site of the nuclear power station.
