Kensington Arts has announced its summer programme, which focuses on creative wellness.

Running throughout August, young people aged eight to 18 can take part in a variety of classes and workshops covering art, music, theatre, dance and backstage skills.

As we prepare for the sunny weather and fun, you can go along to the Douglas-based arts centre for a range of activities which will inspire young artistic minds.

From August 8 to 12, Anna Clucas’ Art Tank is back for a full week of summer creativity.

From a Heartstopper-themed graphic novel workshop to Steampunk-style canvas painting, make-your-own slime or create clay monsters – there’s something for everyone.

Also that week, Isle of Man Arts Council’s graduate intern, Sophie Linham, will run ‘A Week of Dance’ – an action-packed schedule with different dance classes each day.

Participants can learn trending TikTok dances or take part in a musical theatre themed workshop, alongside routine and technique classes throughout the week.

From August 15 to 27, there will be a two-week musical theatre workshop where they will cast, rehearse and perform ‘WE WILL ROCK YOU Young@Part’.

Led by recently appointed arts project leaders Ruth Barnes and Naomi Longhurst, and running from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday, this adaptation of the full-length musical features chart-topping Queen songs including Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody To Love, We Are the Champions, and many more.

This 70-minute adaptation of the West End show follows two young rebels as they restore rock ‘n’ roll to ‘the iPlanet’ in a post-apocalyptic world.

Public performances will be held on August 26 and 27 for this ‘fist-pumping, foot-stomping anthem to individuality’.

Running alongside this, Tech Crew are also inviting people to come along who want to shine behind the scenes.

You can join technical lead Paul Ellison for a masterclass in everything from sound and lighting to costume, props and set design, running from August 23 to 27 to support We Will Rock You.

Tickets range from £10-25 per day, and are available online at www.kensingtonarts.im or from the Villa Marina or Welcome Centre.
