A family whose daughter needed life-saving surgery at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital is organising a coffee morning to raise money to say thank you.
Lola Chamberlain, daughter of Tom and Micha, was born with a heart condition but after successful surgery, is now recovering at home.
The couple along with friends taking part in the hospital’s PJ Day, which is part of its annual campaign to raise money towards the life-saving work the world renowned hospital does.
Tom said: ’This is something dear to our hearts thanks to our little girl Lola Chamberlain. Lola was born on January 28 2019 with a rare heart condition known as hypoplastic right heart syndrome which in simple terms is half a heart as the left side of her heart hadn’t formed.
’In her incredible short life so far she has stayed at Alder Hey for over three months to have two stents fitted and open heart surgery, along with two crashes and four intensive care admissions.
’This has been an incredibly hard and difficult time that has been made a hundred times easier by the care we received whilst there. The nurses have treated Lola as if she was their own and have pandered to her every whim.
’Nothing has ever been too much trouble as you can see from the photo.’
It is because of that care, that Micha and friends are organising the coffee morning, at Vagabonds rugby club on Friday, October 18.
The morning coincides with a UK event, with events all across the British Isles and also links to the Christmas PJ campaign which the hospital has again launched with UK retailer Matalan.
Tom added: ’Lola is doing really well in recovery. She’ll need to have another operation when she’s three, but now she’s doing great and is back to her happy self.’
This year’s range features a colourful print made up of figures holding hands alongside Alder Hey’s Oli the Elephant character. It is available in navy blue with all profits going to the Alder Hey charity.
The coffee morning is on Friday October 18, from 10am to noon. Entry is £2.50 which includes a drink and a piece of cake. There will be more cake available to buy and a raffle with tickets for sale at £1 a strip.
