One of the youngest and most recognisable singers and performers on the island will be joined by a whole host of Manx singers and stage stars for a fund raising variety show.
Alexandra Slater, 16, has put together an evening, boldly titled ’The Greatest Variety Show’, at the Gaiety Theatre on the evening of Saturday, September 29, all in aid of Hospice Isle of Man.
Despite her relatively young age, Alexandra has been amazing audiences with her stunning singing voice, acting talent and her ability to dance and perform for many years.
The 2017 Sheffield Plate winner has brought together top local singers Mandy Griffin, Paul Costain, Danni Bridson, Olivia Black and Jack Divers, along with the Douglas Town Band, the choirs from Ballacottier and Ballakermeen schools and the Mannin Youth Dance group to raise money for the Hospice, a charity which named her as their young ambassador last year.
Alexandra said that she felt that she wanted to give something back to the charity, following the illness of a family member.
’I think that the Hospice, and all the staff there, are amazing,’ said Alexandra. ’The work they do is incredible, and they helped my family so much, through the hardest time, two years ago when my grandfather, was ill.
’I wanted to give something back to them.’
One poignant number will see Alexandra team up with musician and Hospice nurse, Eugene Wilson.
’Eugene was really helpful and lovely with my grandfather,’ she said.
’He is also a great singer. We thought it would be good if we could do a song together, and we decided to sing ’Dancing on My Own’,by Calum Scott.
’We have worked together and created our own version of it. It will be a very special part of the night for me.’
Alexandra has teamed up with WOW Events to bring her show to the stage.
Colette Wylde, from WOW Events, said that the show will see a different side to Alexandra’s talents.
’There are also some really big, powerful songs on there which people may have never heard before, and definitely not heard Alexandra sing before,’ said Colette.
’I think people’s socks will be well and truly blown off when they hear her.’
Tickets for The Greatest Variety Show are £15, available from the Villa Marina box office.
