They are under starter’s orders for the inaugural Ramsey Soapbox Races.
The event will take place on Sunday, September 24 on a course that runs down Windsor Mount, next to the Mooragh Park and Ballacloan Football Stadium.
It is being organised by Ramsey Town Commissioners and with the support of three local businesses - Paul Dedman Performance Ltd, Gough Electrical and Outdoors Ramsey.
Luke Parker of Outdoors Ramsey said: ’So far we have received 22 entry requests for the event which has surpassed what we were expecting, especially as this is the first event.’
The event has a Facebook Page and website at www.ramseysoapbox.co.uk where you can find out more details and contact the organisers if you want to enter a cart.
Anyone over the age of 16 can enter. Just fill the registration form and documents will be forwarded on to you.
Scrutineering will takes place ahead of the event at the Commissioners’ depot on Old River Road on Saturday September 23 between 6pm and 7pm.
On the day of racing, parking will be suspended at 11am along Windsor Mount, Bay View and Ballacloan Road and on Cumberland Road between Lezayre Mount and the junction with Bay View.
Roads close at 1pm and at 1.30pm competitors make their way to the top of the coursa ahead of a briefing.
The first cart will set off down the course at 2.30pm. Racing finishes at 5pm with roads opening at 6pm.
Peel’s soapbox derby, which was cancelled last month due to poor weather and a shortage of competitors, will now take place on Sunday October 1. A minimum of 20 entries were needed but only 17 had come forward.
Meanwhile, the Microgaming Douglas Soapbox Race will not be taking place this year due to ’logistical issues’.
Organisers have pledged that it will be back next year, with a provisional date of September and they promise it will be bigger and better than before.
