Ronaldsway Met Office has extended the amber weather warning for the island’s coastal areas.

The strong to gale force south-westerly wind will continue to create very large waves today, bringing significant amounts of sea water and debris onto exposed coastal roads and promenades around the times of high tide this morning and tonight at about 11am and 11.25pm.

The areas expected to be most affected for this morning’s tide are Shore Road Rushen, Castletown Promenade, the northern end of Douglas Promenade, as well as Laxey and Ramsey Promenades.

The wind will veer to the west later this evening with the areas most likely to be affected tonight being central to northern Peel Promenade, Fenella Beach in Peel, and the eastern end of Shore Road Rushen (Pooil Vaaish).

There is also a risk of some minor inner harbour flooding (only yellow warning level) for the lowest lying areas of some of the islands harbours, with this morning’s high tide with the areas at risk being the Tongue in Douglas and Mezeron Corner and West Quay in Ramsey.

Castletown harbour is not expected to have any issues, as long as the flood defences have been deployed.

A yellow weather warning is also in place as rain will continue to be heavy at times through the rest of today, before dying out tonight.

Rainfall amounts are likely to be 10-20mm, giving a risk of localised flooding, especially where drains are blocked by fallen leaves.

All weather warnings are in place throughout Sunday and into the early hours of Monday.
