Returning from the busy streets of London to the quiet of the Isle of Man inspired an album’s worth of music.

Rebecca Brahde, 23, released her debut album ’Into the Night’ , a self-produced 10-track collection of piano music, this week.

Recorded at Loco Studios, in London, the music contrasts in styles and emotions, and is almost two albums in one, with the music being either being driven and inspired by the dark or the light.

Rebecca was driven to create and compose the album after she returned to the Isle of Man, following a spell living in London, where she was immersed in studying for a Masters degree in political communication.

The change of pace, coupled with the peace and quiet that came with the island’s lock down stirred Rebecca’s creative streak, which resulted in this album.

’A lot of the inspiration for my music came to me during the lock downs when I would go out driving or walking, and how I felt being surrounded by nature,’ said Rebecca.

’I was also inspired by my emotions during that time too.

’I like to be outside and experiencing nature. I like things like paddleboarding or kayaking swimming, or just being by the sea, and I wanted to reflect a lot of that in my music.

’There is also a little bit of Celtic influence there too. I used to pay in a folk music group and I think that there is a feel of that comes through my music too.

’The island is such a nice placet to come to and I loved being back here.

’During 2020 especially, London was not a nice place to be in, and coming back here was amazing.

’The Isle of Man gave me so much more time and space, both physically and mentally, and the wonderful scenery just added to that.

’I really inspired me to create and write.’

Rebecca has been playing piano since she was eight years old, and has already released two original compositions.

Along with the quiet and the scenery of the island, she was also inspired by her favourite contemporary pianists, such as the French composer Sofiane Parmart and the film composer Hans Zimmerman.

She plans to carry on writing and composing as she returns to London to finish her studies, with another four more compositions waiting to be finished.

However, she has no plans to perform her music in he live setting anytime soon.

’Music and composing songs and my own music is my main hobby.

’I have never really wanted to play live or perform my songs, partly because I get very bad stage fright.

’I’m not saying I would never perform them live, but it is not something I have really considered at the moment.’

’Into the Night’ is available to stream from Rebecca’s Spotify page.
