In the year of Our Island, December will round off the monthly themes with the focus on our artisans, crafters and producers, and the opportunity for us to celebrate a truly Manx Christmas.

As well as being able to enjoy the award-winning fayre the island has to offer, we are also awash with creative talent, so the perfect gifts are closer to hand than you may think.

Did you know that for every £1 spent on local produce, it is worth £1.83 to the Isle of Man’s economy?

This is what is known as the multiplier effect.

Starting with the all-important Christmas dinner, as well as being able to buy a locally-reared traditional turkey from one of the many poultry suppliers, you may wish to go for some slow-grown, grass-reared award-winning beef, or perhaps some succulent Loaghtan Lamb?

For the trimmings we have a number of quality farms and butchers offering the finest pork for pigs in blankets.

And not forgetting the seasonal vegetables, which can be purchased not only from the big stores but also at farmers markets and stalls held around the island.

What about a Manx tipple for the table?

We have locally made gin, beer, ales and cider and for soft drink options there is locally sourced mineral water as well as teas and fresh pressed juices to quench your thirst.

For the sweet toothed among us, you can buy critically-acclaimed flour for your mince pies, or buy from one of our talented local cake makers. And if you can squeeze another course in there is our local cheese accompanied with coffee.

For the perfect gift look for a locally-crafted woollen garment, a special piece of artwork or, for that special gift, there are some amazing jewellery makers on the Island.

There are just so many options for a perfect Manx Christmas.
