Manx Wildlife Trust held an Easter egg hunt with a difference at the Children’s Centre Community Farm.

Children from all over the island went along to learn about all the different sorts of animals, birds and fish that lay eggs.

Who knew, for instance, that butterflies land on leaves that they ’taste’ with their feet to check they are suitable before laying their eggs on them?

Led by Dawn Dickens from the Manx Wildlife Trust, the children had the opportunity to learn all sorts of unusual facts egg-laying and nest building facts.

After following a trail through the farm’s wetlands area, they all went to the classroom where the children had a go at building nests themselves - using a pair of tweezers as a beak!

For anyone interested in birds Manx Wildife Trust will be holding an evening birdsong walk at Claughbane Woodlands next Friday (April 13). Led by Andree Dubbeldam, with expert birder, Sophie Costain, the event starts at 7.30pm and will continue till dusk at around 8.30pm. It’s child-friendly but there is some steep walking involved.
