You will never be stuck for how to refer to Manx weather again thanks to the latest initiative from Culture Vannin.

It has released more than 90 animated digital images - Gifs - that are a tongue-in-cheek look at the island’s variable and often challenging weather.

The original images were crocheted by Grainne Sheard and they were then turned into unique and humorous Gifs by Dianna Villanueva.

Adrian Cain, Manx language development officer for Culture Vannin, said: ’We are always looking at developing new and creative ways to engage the public with the language.

’Crocheted Gifs in Manx about our weather, which is such a favourite topic of conversation here, seemed an appropriate and tongue-in-cheek way to generate enthusiasm about both the language and our island.’

The animated images range from ’Happy Cat’ (Kayt maynrey) to ’Warning: Flying cat’ (Raaue: Kayt getlagh).

They don’t all have cats -there is also ’Thor is angry’ (Ta Thor corree).

The Gifs are free to download from the Culture Vannin website at: http://www.culturevannin.im/gif_group_496989.html
