The Met Office has again issued a yellow weather alert.
Forecasters are warning of snow and ice.
The forecast:
Early outbreaks of rain or sleet and hill snow will be followed by a few wintry showers and sunny intervals today. The strong to gale force northwest winds only moderating slowly. Temperatures 2 or 3 Celsius, slowly rising to 4 or 5 at best, but near freezing over the hills with ice on any untreated roads in upland areas.
Turning wet into Saturday morning with a strong to gale force southerly and heavy rain, then the rain will clear and the wind will ease later in the morning but heavy rain and gales are likely to return for a time mid-late afternoon and evening. At least it will be milder on Saturday with temperatures up to 8 or 9°C.
Colder on Sunday with fresh or strong winds from the northwest, which will bring scattered wintry showers.
