Jeremy Storey QC has been appointed as the island’s full-time Judge of Appeal.

He will act as a judge of the High Court, presiding over the Appeals Division. As an Acting Deemster since 1999, he has a good working knowledge of the Isle of Man’s Courts.

The role commands a salary of £179,768 a year, commensurate with that of the First Deemster and aligned with the UK judicial salary structure.

It was previously part-time. Additional responsibilities include promoting confidence in the island and its judiciary, locally and internationally.

Mr Storey, a Cambridge graduate, has been a QC since 1994 and a Deputy High Court Judge in England and Wales since 2008.He will be moving to the island with his wife.

He said he was honoured to be appointed, adding: ’I very much hope this new role will provide a welcome boost to the local judicial resources, relieve some of the pressure on the other members of the hardworking Manx judiciary and thereby support the rule of law.’
