The Isle of Man Art Society’s Easter art exhibition, sponsored by Moore Stephens, opens this week in the Onchan village precinct.

It brings together more than 400 different works by more than 100 local artists and will be open to the public daily from tomorrow (Wednesday) until Monday, April 17.

Some artists displaying their works are internationally famous.

They include Paul Parker, who has donated one of his works for the event’s raffle.

Moore Stephens partner Clive Dixon said: ’Not only is it an amazing opportunity to contemplate and enjoy the art but it’s a chance to purchase pieces that have never been on public display before.’

The Easter art exhibition began at the Villa Marina and later moved to the Onchan village precinct, courtesy of Shoprite, which owns the location.

The Isle of Man Art Society dates back to 1953 with 28 founding members. Its first meeting was held at the Ivanhoe Hotel but, after meeting in various locations, the society bought its own clubhouse at Thie Ellyn, off Withington Road in Douglas in the late 1990s.

Today the society boasts 300 members and new members are welcome.

The society meets most days as members get together to draw, paint and encourage each other as friends in the pursuit of art for pleasure.

Demonstration workshops explore acrylic, silk painting and clay modelling.

Admission to the exhibition is free.
