More signs of life returning to normal came last weekend with the re-opening of one of the island’s art galleries.
The Isle Contemporary gallery, based at Tynwald Mills, opened its doors again and allowed people to have another look at the current exhibition, entitled ’Whispering in the Trees’, by photographer and graphic artist Mark Kinrade, in collaboration with Culture Vannin.
Mark had opened his exhibition up on March 15, which was only a matter of days before the island began to adhere to the strict lockdown measures brought on by the response to Covid-19.
His photographic collection is a series of montage images inspired by many of the fairy tales and folklore characters of the Isle of Man.
To mark the re-opening of the exhibition, Culture Vannin’s James Franklin held a talk at the gallery about some of the tales that inspired Mark’s images.
The event attracted a crowd of around 40 people on Sunday evening, where James discussed the background and potential meanings to such stories such as the ’Lost wife of Ballaleece’, ’The Lhiannan Shee’ and the tale behind St Maughold, illustrated with Mark’s imagery.
Another island-based gallery is set to re-open early next month.
The Hodgson Loom Gallery will open its doors on Saturday, August 8 with an open community art display. More details are on the Hodgson Loom Facebook page.
