The Isle of Man’s first ever Great Manx Cake-Off Charity event at Tower House, Castle Street, Douglas on Sunday, March 19.
The event will be open between 1pm and 5.30pm and will bring together talented bakers to create a masterpiece in Manx heritage.
Taking inspiration from the successful BBC programme of the Great British Bake Off, degree students Laura Myrie, Bethany Gale and Jenni Smith have decided to host a local competition of the ’Great Manx Cake-Off’.
This competition is open to everyone, with bakers being put to the test for their cake and pastry-baking skills.
The challenge for the bakers will be to re-create an iconic Manx landmark entirely out of cake, as they compete for the honour of being crowned the winner of The Great Manx Cake-Off.
Following in the footsteps of celebrity TV judges, the public will be asked to scrutinise entries closely, for their presentation, originality and their mouth-watering content before voting for their favourite.
They then have the chance to win one of the cakes among other great prizes during a raffle.
In addition to the Cake-Off competition in the Atrium Café at Tower House there will be a small Manx market, face-painters and ’Cupcake Corner’.
Laura, Beth and Jenni are second year students on the events management and marketing degree course at the University College Isle of Man. As part of their course, they have chosen to stage this live event with all proceeds being donated to the charity Autism Initiatives.
If you think that you have what it takes to become a master baker and to earn the title of being crowned the winner of The Great Manx Cake-Off, then please contact Laura or Bethany on 302898.
Entry places are limited.
They would also welcome hearing from anyone who would like to be a volunteer on the day.
