Weather warnings have been issued for severe gale force winds, heavy rain and coastal overtopping.
Gusts of up to 60mph are expected widely across the island with gusts of 65mph in exposed spots.
The Met Office says: ‘This period of wet and windy weather will lead to a risk of some minor damage, travel disruption and localised flooding, with Tuesday morning’s commute expected to be particularly affected.’
In a yellow warning, it says the wind is expected to peak between 6am and 2pm.
The wind will then quickly veer west or west-southwesterly around mid-afternoon,, easing slightly, although still remaining strong to gale force with gusts 40-45 mph.
Rainfall amounts are expected to be 20-30mm quite widely across the island, but with up to 60mm possible over the hills.
The Met Office has issued an amber warning for coastal overtopping.
It says: ‘Large waves are expected to affect exposed coastal roads and promenades on Tuesday around the times of high tide.
‘Around mid-afternoon on Tuesday the wind will turn to the west or west-southwest and ease slightly, although still remaining strong to gale force, with slight to moderate overtopping of waves then likely to affect Fenella beach in Peel and the eastern end of Peel promenafe for the evening’s high tide (10.15pm).’
