Beach Buddies has cancelled its event today.

The charity was supposed to again go to another new venue for a weekend volunteer event - this time to Glen Maye at 10:30am.

It said the forecast of heavy rain meant it had decided to call off its event.

It has been re-scheduled for next Sunday, February 20th at 10.30am.

Equipment will be handed out in the main car park alongside the Waterfall Hotel and volunteers will have the choice of going to the beach (a 10-minute walk) or through the glen.

Volunteers pick up litter and rubbish from the shore.

Last week at Ballasalla (another new venue) the charity had 57 volunteers, including 12 who took part for the first time, collecting an estimated 200kg of rubbish from around the glen and village.

Founder Bill Dale said: ’If you’ve never been before come along and give it a go. You will receive a friendly welcome and go home feeling better about the world! Families are particularly welcome.’

Beach Buddies is sponsored by FIM Capital and receives annual funding from DEFA.
