Beach Buddies will go to the northern tip of the island this weekend for Sunday morning’s volunteer beach cleaning session from 10.30am to midday.
The meeting point is the car park with the Beach Buddies’ bin to the right of the main lighthouse and very close to the ’Winkie’ lighthouse at the Point of Ayre.
This is a great place for wildlife watching and, based on a recent visit, it would be a major surprise if people who attend didn’t see lots of seals close up and gannets dive-bombing just a few yards off the shoreline.
There are also likely to be terns, oystercatchers and cormorants, so it’s also a chance to do some birdwatching at the same time as clearing up the rubbish from the beaches which is potentially dangerous to all wildlife on the coast.
New volunteers are very welcome, especially families.
