Charity Beach Buddies is holding its first beach clean event in the south of the island for many weeks this Sunday, January 16.

Volunteers are asked to meet at 10.30am at Castletown Bay in the second car park past Hango Hill.

Last week the charity were joined by the Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer and his wife Lady Lorimer at The Lhen. They met many of the 39 volunteers who collected around 150kgs of rubbish.

This weekend they expect a similar quantity of rubbish, as it’s been pretty stormy recently.

Beach Buddies provides all the necessary equipment (gloves, bags, litter pickers) and remove all the items collected, recycling as much they can afterwards.

The remainder goes to the EFW (Energy From Waste Plant).

There is no need to register, just turn up if you can and join in. Last weekend also saw seven new volunteers taking part for the first time.

Families are particularly welcome.
