Beach Buddies, the beach cleaning charity is hoping to clean the last two of the island’s most sensitive beaches before the nesting season begins shortly. This week the plan is to work at the Langness peninsula, but this is subject to possible cancellation depending on the weather.
A spokesman for the group said: ’It is likely to be wet, cold and windy on Sunday morning at 10.30am when the session is schedule to begin, and Beach Buddies is advising volunteers that the session may, therefore, be called off.
’However, the following week’s session, planned for the section of beach south of the Point of Ayre will go ahead, no matter what the conditions.’
The section of coast from Blue Point to Point of Ayre closes on April 1 to protect nesting birds during their nesting season. All equipment is provided and all rubbish disposed of at the end, volunteers need simply turn up.
