A body of a striped dolphin was found washed up on a Castletown harbour on Wednesday.

The marine mammal, which is commonly seen in tropical waters such as the Mediterranean, stranded itself in Castletown harbour despite efforts to save it.

The Manx Wildlife Trust explained that the dolphin is ’not a regular to our waters at all or generally the Irish Sea’ and stated that the cause of death was ’unknown’.

ManxSPCA worker, Michael Thompson, commented: ’We tried saving it.

’He managed to get out to sea, but freaked when a fishing boat came in.’

An investigation into the cause of death has been launched.
