The Ben-my-Chree has resumed full operations after an engine fault was fixed.

Sailings to Heysham had to be cancelled at the weekend after the Steam Packet ship was taken out of service with technical problems.

The Ben’s weekend sailings to Belfast were operated by the Manannan fast craft instead.

But following repairs and a successful sea trial on Sunday afternoon, she was able to proceed with the scheduled sailing to Heysham that evening.

A spokesman for the Steam Packet confirmed there had been a fault with one of the Ben’s engines so she was taken out of service on Saturday morning.

The issue was related to load reduction alarms which, in turn, required the engine’s cylinder heads to be changed, he explained.

He said: ’The issues were resolved, a successful sea trial was completed on Sunday afternoon and the vessel resumed with the scheduled sailing to Heysham.’
