A company that wants to build 150 temporary tourist units for the TT on the former prison site on Victoria Road, Douglas, has got the go-ahead from planners.

Duke Events Ltd says each unit or ’portacabin’ will accommodate two people and include bathroom facilities, while a tented marquee will serve breakfast and drinks at the site.

A hard-standing area has been earmarked for parking and a temporary office will be erected to home a site manager, with security and housekeeping staff also in place.

Duke expects to cater for short-stay visitors including the corporate guests of event sponsors, with some 300 bed nights understood to be provisionally booked on receipt of approval.

The 150 units must be taken down four days after the end of the TT festival, as a condition of the approval.

TT visitors will be able to stay on the old prison site next year.

Cabins will be transported to the site by lorry and it will be similar to the Snoozebox site that operated recently near the TT Grandstand.

Duke Travel is marketing the site as ’IOMTT Village’.

When he announced the proposal, Peter Duke, chief executive officer of Duke Travel, said; ’Some fans will also welcome the sound-insulation of our rooms when they decide to turn in for the night.

’We think the village will be well received by anyone who stayed in one of the Snoozebox rooms when they were here between 2012 and 2017.

’It’s close to the action but not so close that you can’t escape the noise, while the rooms are 10% larger with good bathroom facilities and more space for bike gear.’

Continental breakfast and tea and coffee facilities will available on site, as well as a manned 24-hour reception, hardstand bike parking and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Prices start from £50 per person bed and breakfast per night based on two sharing during Practice Week.

The Governor’s Bridge camping site will have showers and toilets, an on-site bar and food outlet, free Wi-Fi and hard-standing parking for motorcycles.

Governor’s Bridge Fan Park prices start at £40 per person per night based on two sharing.
