An 82-year-old man who abseiled off a cliff at Maughold Head has raised over £1,000 for Arthritis Care Ellan Vannin.

We previously reported how Bob Leith, from Laxey, took on the challenge in April.

It was the first time Bob, who has had two hip replacements and two knee replacement operations, had abseiled.

He was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 1994 and osteo-arthritis a year or so later.

He handed over a cheque for £1,015 to representatives from Arthritis Care Ellan Vannin with health minister Kate Beecroft in attendance.

Mrs Beecroft had also intended to take on the abseil but was advised by the venture centre that the climb up from the beach afterwards may be too much due to discomfort in her achilles tendon and hip.
