The Isle of Man is braced for winds reaching 75mph as Storm Dylan arrives to bring a wet and windy end to 2017.
A Met Office amber wind warning is in place from 2am to midday tomorrow. (Sunday).
And Steam Packet services are being hit too.
There is a risk of structural damage/fallen trees.
The Met Office at Ronaldsway issued this bulletin: ’A small but intense area of low pressure (Storm Dylan) is expected to cross Northern Ireland tonight, crossing Scotland tomorrow morning. This will bring severe gale perhaps storm force winds across the Isle of Man overnight and at first tomorrow morning with coastal overtopping around the time of high tide.
’Southeast winds will increase this evening with speeds of 25-30 mph, the wind will veer Southwest during the early hours of tomorrow morning and increase to 40-45 mph with widespread gusts 55 to 60 mph and occasional gusts of 70 perhaps 75 mph, with the risk of some structural damage/fallen trees. The wind will gradually ease during tomorrow morning.’
The weather pundits say all island will face the windy conditions while the coastal overtopping is expected to affect Shore Road - Carrick Bay, Castletown Promenade and the northern end of Douglas Promenade.
The Steam Packet announced that tonight’s Douglas to Belfast service on the Ben-my-Chree at 7.30pm has been cancelled because of the forecast adverse weather.
All passengers have been automatically transferred to an additional sailing at 7.30pm tomorrow (Sunday).
And passengers hoping to sail from Belfast to Douglas at 1am Sunday will now be automatically transferred to an additional sailing at 1am on New Year’s Day.
The scheduled Douglas to Heysham sailing at 8.45am tomorrow (Sunday) is subject to potential delay and a further update is awaited on this.
This also appplies to the return 2.15pm sailing from the Lancashire port tomorrow.Meanwhile earlier today the Mountain Road was re-opened to traffic after earlier snowfall.
