A group of fundraisers aiming to restore the pier in Ramsey is celebrating another successful event in its programme.

The Queen’s Pier Restoration Trust funds were boosted by more than £300 thanks to a hot pot supper and lantern slide show held recently at the town’s Mitre Hotel.

Peter Kelly of the Victorian Society presented the show of historic photographs, plus commentary.

Tom Durrant, of the trust, said: ’Thanks to Peter Kelly and all the supporters who came along. The crowd did not want Peter to stop.’

He also thanked all the fundraisers who rolled up their sleeves to serve 60 meals as well as arranging everything.

Tickets for the event were on sale at Ramsey library and sold like the proverbial hot cakes but Mr Durrant said he hoped to stage a similar event again in the not-too-distant future when those who missed out might have a second chance.

The next step is for the Department of Infrastructure to connect mains services to the pier, which is due to happen in the spring. Mr Durrant has suggested when restored, the pier could be an asset as a landing stage for cruise ship tenders, giving passengers access to the town.
