The boss of the island’s Communications Commission is retiring from her role.

Dr Carmel McLaughlin joined the government body in July 2008.

Previously she served in senior roles with Ofcom in London and the Commission for Communications Regulation in Dublin before taking up her appointment as the commission’s director in the Isle of Man in July 2008.

The Communications Commission has responsibility for the licensing and regulation of telecommunications and broadcasting in the island.

Dr McLaughlin said: ’I have enjoyed working in what is an important and rapidly-evolving environment. I am looking forward to being able to spend more time travelling, so that I can visit my family who are spread across the four corners of the globe.’

Bill Malarkey MHK, the chairman of the Communications Commission, thanked Dr McLaughlin for her years of service.

He said: ’Dr McLaughlin has presided over many changes in the telecommunications and broadcasting industry both on and off island and we wish her a long and happy retirement.

’The board is currently finalising the job description and will be advertising the post shortly. We will be looking for an exceptional candidate to continue the positive work that has taken place over recent years.’
