Several Bra Dashes took place between Thursday and Sunday to raise money for Breast Cancer Now, the UK’s largest research centre, after being cancelled last year because of the pandemic.

Setting off from Douglas, Castletown, Ramsey and Peel, the 10-15 minute, 1km fun runs encouraged participants to ’Grab a bra, pop it on over your t-shirt and support your local Dash.’

Hundreds of people turned up to participate and support, with thousands of pounds raised over the different events.

Event organiser Angie Aire described how over £1,000 was raised in Ramsey alone in just over an hour via spectators making donations.

She said: ’There was a great atmosphere, and really good support [at each dash]. And there were great costumes as ever.’.

The route for the Douglas Dash differed this year due to the ongoing roadworks in the town centre, forcing the event to take place in the Isle of Man Business Park.

Local companies even got in on the fun, with Lloyds Bank providing cash prizes, Zurich International providing a team trophy, and Shoprite, Robinson’s and Green Mann Spring Water providing refreshments for the runners.

Many Manx people are involved in Breast Cancer Now’s ’Generations Study’ which was set up in 2004 to help understand the causes of breast cancer. The project is following more than 113,000 UK women for 40 years to help understand who may be more likely to develop the disease and what can be done to prevent it. The charity says its aim is that ’by 2050, no-one will die of this disease.’
