Earlier this week Edwin Cubbon, a recipient of the Burma Star, turned 98.
His great-granddaughter Rachael Cubbon sent us this picture of Mr Cubbon in Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, with a copy of the Isle of Man Examiner.
It is believed this picture was taken in about 1943. Born and bred in Castletown, Mr Cubbon now lives in Elder Grange nursing home, Douglas. The Burma Star was awarded to members of the ’forgotten 14th army’ led by Field Marshal William Slim, so called because it received comparatively little media coverage during the Second World War.
