Manx Telecom hosted its annual Pensioners’ Christmas Party which recognises the valued contribution of retired staff.

Hosted by current employees, the 2017 event saw retirees enjoy Christmas lunch at the Palace Hotel followed by a raffle.

For several years former Manx Telecom employee, Bob Walton, has generously donated one of his original paintings as a raffle prize, with proceeds totalling more than £1,000 being raised for charity. This year he donated another of his paintings, which was won by Irene Cowin – proceeds from the raffle this year will be donated to Rebecca House.

Gary Lamb, Manx Telecom CEO, said: ‘The Pensioners’ Christmas party is always a great occasion for employees past and present.

‘As one of the island’s largest employers for more than 125 years, Manx Telecom has overseen many changes in communications on the island – but the last 25 years has been the most dramatic of all with the development of the internet, mobile phones, a communications infrastructure to support the growth of the island’s finance and eGaming industries, and delivery of the island’s first 4G mobile and fibre broadband networks.

‘Many of the people who made all of this possible were present at the pensioners’ party this year, and it was a pleasure and privilege to recognise and celebrate the tremendous contribution they have made.’

The party is just one example of Manx Telecom’s commitment to the Isle of Man.
