Gamesys Group is sponsoring the award for Doing the Impossible During the Pandemic at this year’s Isle of Man Newspapers’ awards for Excellence
In a year when so many things no longer seemed possible, it has been remarkable just how many people rose to the challenge of making them happen anyway.
The 2021 Awards for Excellence will acknowledge the amazing achievements of Manx residents, businesses and organisations in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. Joining the sponsors for the first time is Gamesys Group, a leading online gaming operator.
Gamesys is supporting the Doing the Impossible category that will recognise the extraordinary efforts that have been made to provide much needed services or products against the odds.
Open to any individual and all business, public sector, charitable or voluntary organisations, the award will reflect how values such as resilience, resourcefulness, independent thinking and community loyalty have driven exceptional outcomes for our community.
It has been something of a remarkable year for Gamesys itself.
Formed by the merger of JPJ Group plc and Gamesys in 2019, the business has been experiencing rapid growth and in November last year, announced the establishment of an office on the Isle of Man.
Already a FTSE 250 company, it also gained entry into the FTSE4Good Index Series. Gamesys is also committed to supporting causes relating to mental health, through the independent charity organisation, The Gamesys Foundation.
During the pandemic - and acting under its purpose of ’crafting entertainment with care’ - Gamesys took a unilateral decision to stop advertising on TV during the national lockdown.
Gamesys also made its scheduled TV sponsorship of Loose Women available to Women’s Aid, the national charity for domestic abuse, along with a further £200,000 donation to enable the charity to increase its live chat capacity at a critical time.
Gamesys’ response during the pandemic was cited as one of the reasons it was awarded EGR’s prestigious Operator of the Year 2020 title. The group also won the awards for Employer of the Year and Bingo Operator of the Year.
Gamesys Group’s recently-appointed general manager for the Isle of Man, Ben Wood, said: ’We are delighted to mark Gamesys’ arrival on the Isle of Man in 2020 by supporting the Awards for Excellence and sponsoring this special award.
’The island is well known for its positive community spirit and can-do attitude. It is no surprise to me that so many people went above and beyond to help others during such a difficult time.
’The Awards for Excellence programme is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of individuals, businesses and organisations who rose to the occasion when needed.
’I’d particularly like to recognise all those nominated for the Doing the Impossible category and wish the finalists - Project Scrubs, Victim Support (Isle of Man) and Swagelock - all the best on the night.’
