Superfast fibre broadband speeds are now available to 5,000 more homes and businesses across the island.
Extending superfast broadband availability requires engineers to instal cabinets either at the roadside or inside buildings.
Over the last few months another 15 fibre broadband street cabinets have been installed, extending the service to 91 per cent of premises in the island for superfast fibre broadband (up to 40 megabits per second downloads and up to two megabits per second uploads) and 73 per cent for ultrafast fibre broadband (up to 80 megabits per second downloads and up to 10 megabits per second uploads).
Over the last five years Manx Telecom has invested £10million in fibre broadband infrastructure, enabling up to 32,000 homes and business premises via 275,000 metres of fibre cable and 100 roadside cabinets or directly into homes and businesses. The latest phase adds to those already in Douglas, Laxey, Peel, Castletown and Ramsey.
Chief technology officer Kevin Paige said: ’We now have further network developments planned for summer this year that will benefit our business customers through an enhanced range of fibre-based products and converged services.’
