Five workshops are taking place this week to help businesses over Brexit.

Three have already taken place but there is another today (Thursday) and one tomorrow (Friday).

Each event will focus on sectors of the island’s economy.

Although there is still uncertainty over whether there will be a deal or no deal, the Chamber of Commerce says it is aiming to give practical help.

The move follows the success of its ‘Brexit and Beyond’ event in January, when 200 guests heard Brexit updates from Chief Minister Howard Quayle MHK, Della Fletcher, executive director, crown and external relations, and David Corlett, head of the Isle of Man Government’s Brexit team.

Here’s the full list of events.

Engineering, manufacturing and biomed: Eagle Lab, Queen Victoria House, Victoria Street, Douglas, took place on Tuesday.

Retail: MannVend, Ailsa House, Spring Valley Industrial Estate, Douglas, took place on Tuesday.

Food processing, food exports, logistics: DEFA Head Office, Thie Slieau Whallian, Foxdale Road, St John’s, yesterday (Wednesday).

Construction: Eagle Lab, Queen Victoria House, Victoria Street, Douglas, Today (Thursday), 8.30am to 10am.

Visitor and hospitality: Best Western Palace Hotel, Central Promenade, Douglas, Tomorrow (Friday), 8.30am – 10am.

All five workshops begin with an introduction from Rebecca George, Chamber’s chief executive, followed by five minute briefings about the latest Brexit-related developments from David Corlett; Steven Beevers, senior policy adviser/manager, Brexit, Department for Enterprise and Sandra Skuzska, Customs and Excise.

Each workshop features a question and answer session with a panel comprised of all the above people plus relevant representatives from industry.

Rebecca George said:‘Brexit and Beyond was one of the most popular Chamber events in recent years, and the response clearly demonstrated that there’s a huge appetite for information and informed discussion about all Brexit related issues.’

Craig Wolstencroft, founding managing director of communications company MM&C, said: ‘We have a long association with Chamber, so were delighted to support the hugely successful Brexit and Beyond event, and to sponsor the upcoming Brexit workshops.

‘All of these events are great examples of how Chamber acts as a facilitator to bring together the public and private sector to focus on major issues which affect the business community and economy.’

The workshops are open to non-Chamber members.
