Promoting the work of the Fishermen’s Mission Isle of Man to a wider audience has acquired a heightened focus after the charity received a Celton Manx Recognition award to purchase a new projector, screen and display boards for use in its presentations.
The Mission provides financial and emotional support to fishermen, active or retired, and their families.
In 2014 the Isle of Man branch became independent of the UK organisation, ensuring all money raised stays on the island to benefit local and visiting fishermen.
The charity’s Michael Craine said: ‘The Celton Manx Recognition award is very much appreciated.
‘It has allowed the Mission to purchase the projector so gives us a welcome opportunity to promote our work at venues around the island.
‘Importantly, this equipment brings a greater visual impact to our presentations and so raises public awareness.’
Celton Manx executive director Bill Mummery said: ‘The Fisherman’s Mission Isle of Man is run entirely by volunteers, all dedicated to alerting the public to the hazards fishermen face daily in the pursuit of their livelihoods.
‘The charity may have been founded well over a century ago but it is adapting and responding to change, all the while continuing to celebrate the island’s enduring links with the sea and the bravery of the Manx fishing industry’s men and women.
‘For these reasons we are pleased to support the Mission’s work with a Recognition award.’
Celton Manx is inviting applications for Recognition 2018, its sponsorship programme that aims to provide support to local charities and not-for-profit organisations, particularly those with limited resources for promoting and developing their services.
Celton Manx executive director Bill Mummery said: ‘2018 will mark the fourth year of our Recognition scheme.
‘During this time we have been honoured to learn more about and support some truly remarkable individuals and organisations all with a common purpose: to make a very real difference to people’s lives.
