Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the raft of measures announced by the Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK today to support businesses in the island.

Caren Pegg, president, Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce, said: ’We’re pleased that the Government has listened to the concerns of our members which we presented as part of Government’s dialogue with the business community.

’We welcome the support that has been announced today, in particular the payments to cover some of the costs of employees’ salaries and other measures to help cash flow which will provide reassurance to many businesses.

’By supporting our business community, Government has acted in the best short-term and long term interests of the Isle of Man economy.’

Chamber chief executive Rebecca George said: ’Of course, there will be more challenges ahead and our members will still have concerns in the coming weeks and months which we will work with them to address – but the support packages announced today are a good start.

’We will continue our dialogue with Chamber members and Government.’
