Citywing managing director David Buck has spoken of his ‘huge frustration’ at the continuing issues and delays for his customers in the island.
The air service provider is still suffering major disruption to its services after an incident during Storm Doris last month.
Flights sold by Citywing continue to be affected and all flights to Newcastle have been cancelled for the next three weeks.
Mr Buck told the Examiner that ‘all options’ are now being considered and this includes looking at Citywing’s business model for the future.
Asked if this could include probing the idea of Citywing becoming an airline in its own right Mr Buck replied: ‘I would say never say never. There are other various avenues we could go down too,’
Mr Buck said the Air Accidents Investigation Branch of the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was still investigating an incident involving Van Air.
At present Van Air has had its British route permit suspended but it can still operate flights elsewhere.
Initially Citywing said it hoped the situation would be resolved quickly but Mr Buck told the Examiner yesterday (Monday) that some inquiries do ‘take a while’ to resolve and it might well have been an optimistic prediction at the time.
Talking about the situation generally Mr Buck said: ‘This is hugely frustrating for both myself and the team of dedicated people here at Citywing and for those that provide services to us.’
This week a Warsaw, Poland, based Sprint Air Saab 340 plane is travelling each day to Belfast, Gloucester, Glasgow and Blackpool but with a reduced service to the normal schedules. The plane has 33 seats.
Mr Buck said: ‘We apologise for the disruption being caused to the travel plans of customers.
’We will do our best to keep passengers informed. We know that the options available are far from ideal but we wanted to ensure where possible that we can provide an option for passengers to reach their destinations.’
Mr Buck said Van Air, which is based in the Czech Republic, had been operating planes from the Isle of Man for around 10 years and was generally seen as having operated ‘a good service’ and was ‘part of island life.’
Mr Buck is in regular touch with Van Air, confirmed Mr Buck.
