Stephen Woodward and James Clucas are aiming to put smiles on the faces of families in the island with the opening of their joint venture Roller City IoM.

They have put their ’heart and soul’ into preparing the 3,000 sq ft plus recreation centre during the lockdown.

At the weekend the fun venue opened on the Balthane industrial estate in Ballasalla and the emphasis is definitely on bringing miles of smiles.

The place is being billed as ’the island’s largest indoor roller skating disco area since Summerland’.

As he prepared to open the doors for the first time on Saturday Mr Woodward said he and his co-director Mr Clucas were very excited.

Mr Woodward and Mr Clucas told Business News they wanted people of all ages ’to get your skates on and come on down’.

It is next door to Hover Kart City, which is another of their projects.

Future plans include 60s/70s/80s themed disco nights for the adults and parties for the kids.

’There are lasers, disco glitter balls, smoke machines, the lot. We wanted to provide something that people of all ages will enjoy.

’We have aimed to achieve something that gives you that nightclub feeling, like a nightclub on skates, which is what we have done. All funky and all cheesy.’

Hire roller skates were sourced from the UK.

Admission costs £7.50 an hour for children and £8.50 an hour for adults.
