A company claims residents don’t need to travel off the island for a weekend away this winter.
Holiday cottage company Island Escapes has teamed up with Versa and Foraging Vintners to offer a weekend away aimed at Isle of Man residents, but with sustainability in mind.
Organisers say the weekend break is themed around low mileage, both in the distance travelled by the guest, but also low food miles.
Versa is a pop-up restaurant located at Foraging Vintners in Port Erin which specialises in foraging for local produce. Chef Pippa Lovell of Versa won the sustainability award at the San Pellegrino Young Chef of the World competition in London recently.
The businesses are encouraging people to look close to home, an evening out in the south of the island without the need for a car or taxi home. Perhaps enjoying a walk the next day, or even a paddle boarding session.
John Keggin of Island Escapes said: ’As a UNESCO Biosphere partner we are committed to sustainable tourism, and have joined forces with another partner with similar values to demonstrate that a stay at home weekend, even in February can be a lot of fun.’
Pippa Lovell of Versa said: ’All of my ingredients showcase the south of the island and I want this to be accessible for everyone, it is your island.
’Local businesses working together is a major contributor to our biosphere status on the island and I strive to continue this ethic in order to preserve the environment and our livelihoods.’
There are available dates in February and highlights include two nights accommodation at a selected Island Escapes holiday home in Port Erin or Port St Mary (Friday / Saturday in February)
Also a three course meal at Versa on either Friday or Saturday night.
Winery tour and samples of four different wines at Foraging Vintners
Port Erin Paddleboards will also be offering 20% off a paddle boarding session to those who may fancy an activity during the weekend.
