Island e-gaming firm Newfield’s charity of the year is the neonatal unit at Noble’s Hospital.

The charity, also known as the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), was nominated by Newfield staff in a poll in December last year. Based in the East Wing of Noble’s Hospital, it cares for premature and full-term babies who require specialist care in the Isle of Man.

Newfield staff recently visited the facility to meet staff, understand more about what they do and find out how funding could help the charity.

During the visit, Newfield representatives presented the unit with a photo printer to make it easier to provide parents with a keepsake of their little ones during their first few days of life.

Mark Reynolds, director at Newfield, which is based in Victoria Street, Douglas, said: ’SCBU is invaluable to the Isle of Man and provides new-born babies with second-to-none specialist care.

’The work they do has an impact on the lives of so many people on the island.

’It is truly an amazing unit, and having personally been a beneficiary of their excellent care and support, in addition to other members of our staff, I am delighted to name it as our charity of the year.

’We aim to raise funds to help SCBU continue to deliver its exceptional service, and enable them to invest in equipment to improve the facilities available to babies they care for.’

The money raised will go towards new equipment for the unit, including a video laryngoscope, a single technology device used to carry out multiple procedures during resuscitation, intubation and ventilation. Newfield raised more than £6,000 for SCBU in a raffle at its 2017 Christmas party, and plans to continue to raise money through a series of fundraising events throughout the year, including its annual golf day and summer event.

It will also once again be taking part in a number of fundraising events such as The Children’s Centre rounders championships and the Parish Walk.

Last year Newfield raised more than £12,000 for its charity of the year 2017, which was Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation.
