In anticipation of the potentially significant implications that Brexit will have on Manx immigration law, BridsonHalsall Advocates has recruited Maria Bridson to its corporate and commercial law department.
Mrs Bridson, who is a 15-year qualified advocate, has substantial experience in advising local and international business clients on a wide range of matters.
She also joins the Athol Street, Douglas, practice after working for the Isle of Man Immigration Service and the Attorney General’s Chambers.
She has knowledge and expertise in Isle of Man immigration and nationality law having both drafted immigration legislation and advised the Isle of Man Government, the Lieutenant Governor and UK Home Office on its application.
Richard Halsall, director of BridsonHalsall, said: ’As the Isle of Man Government seeks to grow the economy and attract new business and residents to the island, recruiting Maria was a natural step.
’Having been embedded within the Isle of Man Immigration Office, she has a unique insight into the visa application process and immigration appeals.
’Her corporate law background means she can also advise clients on the best structures to qualify for particular visa routes and establishing their business
Mrs Bridson said: ’The UK’s departure from the European Union is approaching and businesses will need comprehensive and practical advice as they seek to comply with new legislation and processes when recruiting staff from overseas or supporting their existing staff.
’I am delighted to be joining BridsonHalsall and look forward to working with a really experienced team of lawyers’.
Mr Halsall said: ’We pride ourselves on being a full-service law firm and Maria’s specialist knowledge of ’’all things immigration’’ provides clients with the guidance needed to deal with the complexities of the immigration system, and hopefully make their relocation to the island as straightforward as possible.
’This complements our comprehensive advice on commercial issues, wills and estate planning, commercial and residential property, and regulatory matters. We have also developed excellent relationships with local advisers who specialise in tax and wealth management who can assist clients as required.’
